“Love Hotel” is a short experimental film inspired by the imaginative and highly themed love hotels of Japan.
Earlier this year, while visiting Tokyo and reconnecting with a childhood friend, I learned about and became fascinated by these spaces: rooms designed to be rented for as little as an hour, some hotels with very unique themes. At first, I judged the concept. But the more I learned, the more I understood that these rooms quietly serve many kinds of people, offering privacy, escape, and often a brief moment of intimacy in a dense and fast-moving city.
